Hosts - The Kirk Family
Steve & Nanette Kirk and daughter Natalie look forward to warmly welcoming you to the relaxed, country charm of their lovely historic home. Steve and Nanette emigrated from England to New Zealand in 1995 and Natalie is 100% Kiwi.
After living in Auckland for many years and travelling extensively throughout New Zealand, we decided to make Marlborough our home and have become custodians of the beautiful, heritage listed "Woodside". We chose Marlborough because it simply offers everything we love - stunning landscapes, sunny climate, close proximity to the aquatic playground of the Marlborough Sounds and of course, the world famous Marlborough vineyards.
We both enjoy good wine and food, love to cook, and enjoy travelling and meeting people from all over the world. We are keen sailors and have had many happy times exploring the New Zealand coastline. We look forward to welcoming you to our home and this beautiful part of New Zealand.
17 walnut trees, planted by early settlers, adorn the property. You are more than welcome in late summer to gather walnuts from our orchard. They are totally spray free from 100 year old trees. We also sell directly to the public and will ship to any part of New Zealand. Please contact us directly if you would like to buy our walnuts. We are happy to discuss any requirements.
English settler, John Burroughs and his wife Adelaide, purchased a 100 acre block here at Tuamarina on 16th December 1863 and their first house was built where our walnut orchard now stands.
We know little about this house except that it was built of white pine and was soon attacked by borer. It was also badly affected by floods.
This, their second house, Woodside, was built in 1877 and survives as one of the oldest homes in the area. It is a classic example of an early colonial farmstead and is listed with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust as a Category 2 protected building.
